Krobo beads originate from the Krobo region in Ghana West Africa. These African beads are made from recycled glass bottles that have been crushed into powder. These bottles are usually vibrant and colorful. After they have been crushed, the powder is poured into ceramic molds and melted in a mud kiln oven.
The ancient cultural and traditional use of such beads are used as a rite of passage for young girls entering womanhood. They wear them on their wrists or necklaces to signify that they have reached womanhood.
