Krobo Glass beads

The Krobo people are an ethnic group from Ghana West Africa. Krobo beads have their origins in the purity rights of passage of the young Krobo girls that are coming of age. The beads are produced and hand strung. Each young girl is adorned with these powder glass beads. It is said that the use of beads by the Krobo date back to the 9th century.
